The Centre for Law and Policy Research (CLPR) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to making the Constitution work for everyone through law and policy research, social and governance interventions and strategic impact litigation.

A Seminar Course on Intersectionality 

CLPR has put together a course curriculum and readings for a seminar course titled “Introducing Intersectionality”. Due to the corona crisis and subsequent lock down, Introducing Intersectionality course has gone online and every Saturday, the classes led by Vqueeram and Aj Agarwal are taken for the students of St. Joseph’s College of Law.  Find out the entire course curriculum and readings here. 

COVID litigation in Telangana

CLPR filed a petition representing Vyjyanti Vasanta Mogli in the Telangana High Court seeking relief measures for transgender persons. The Court passed an order directing that food grains, consumable items, and medicines should be made available to transgender persons without insisting on the production of ration card/white card. Read More.

 

Equality and the Indian Constitution 

In this video recorded for The Lawyers Sunday Club Bangalore, Senior Advocate Jayna Kothari talks about the right to equality under the Indian Constitution describing in detail about the development of substantive equality and the need for a comprehensive legislation on equality. CLPR’s draft  Equality Bill 2020 can be accessed here. 

Public Health, Social Distancing & Economic Stimulus
In light of Covid-19 crisis, the CAD India team has written three desk briefs: the first brief highlighted the mismatch priority of the government towards public health vis-a-vis the marginalized sections of the society; the second analyzed the recent use of the term social distancing with respect to the caste system and social boycott practiced in India, and the third tries to find out if the recent economic stimulus announced can be characterized as a socialist move. Team Developments 

CLPR’s co-founder and managing trustee Sudhir Krishnaswamy has been appointed as the member of the Independent Oversight Board that will moderate the content on Facebook and Instagram. Read More
