C Prabhu is a lawyer based in Chennai, who graduated from Delhi University with a B.A. Geography (Hons.) and an LL.B. He is working in Tamil Nadu, fighting against the unequal treatment of citizens by public authorities, using the rule of law.

He is interested in Public-Interest Litigation, Environmental Law, Consumer Law, Intellectual Property Rights and Entrepreneurship Administration.

Tackling Caste Discrimination Through Law: A Policy Brief on Implementation of Caste Discrimination Laws in India

This Policy Brief reviews the status of implementation of the three important legislations addressing caste discrimination in India namely, the Protection of Civil Rights Act, 1955, the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, and the Prohibition of Employment of Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act, 2013 in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

Manual Scavenging on a Rise in Tamil Nadu

The Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act, 2013 (‘Act’) bans manual scavenging in India. It casts stringent penalties for violation of the Act and provides for rehabilitation and compensation of manual scavengers. Even though manual scavenging is outlawed, it seems to be on a rise, especially in Tamil Nadu.
