In the last week, CLPR continued it’s efforts to introduce students to the Indian Constitution and traveled to Meghalaya and Assam to conduct workshops.

On 7th October 2017 CLPR was at the Law department of North Eastern Hill University in Shillong, Meghalaya to conduct a workshop on “Exploring Cow Slaughter Debates in Indian Constitutional History”.
On 8th October 2017 they were at at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences of IIT, Guwahati to conduct a workshop on ‘Exploring Uniform Civil Code in Indian Constitutional History’.

Hearings in the Special Status of Delhi ( GNCT v UOI) case continued this week. On 07.11.2017, day 2 of the hearings, the Supreme Court continued to hear arguments from Snr. Advocate Gopal Subramanium.
On 08.11.2017 the Gopal Subramanium raised the concept of Cooperative Federalism. P.Chidambaram commenced his arguments.
P.Chidambaram continued his arguments on Day 4 of the Special Status of Delhi (GNCT v UOI) case. He built a case for Delhi being treated as a state as it had jurisdiction over subjects in the State List.

The Centre for Law and Policy Research encourages and facilitates civic engagement with India’s Constitution through the CADIndia project and Supreme Court Observer. CADIndia promotes an understanding of the Indian Constitution by enabling easy and intelligent access to the Constituent Assembly Debates and the Indian Constitution at the centre of discussions on contemporary political and economic issues. The SCObserver website endeavors to make the workings of the Supreme Court accessible and understandable to the citizenry by translating the hearings and judgements of a few constitutionally relevant cases into everyday language.
The other main areas of interest for CLPR are Transgender Rights, Children’s Rights, Reproductive Rights, and Bail Reform. CLPR’s activities in these areas range from research to education to litigation. This weekly post recaps the activities across all projects and areas of focus.
