10th January 1886: Dr.John Matthai, an economist who earned doctorates from LSE and Oxford and led 8 industrialists and economists in drafting the Bombay Plan – a 15 year development plan for India. His contributions went beyond those in the Constituent Assembly – he was first Chairman of the State Bank of India and server as the Vice-Chancellor at the University of Mumbai and the University of Kerala.
7th January 1949: The Constituent Assembly voted for all executive action of the government of India to be taken in the name of the President. One of the reasons behind this proposal was that the President, in the absence of an elected Parliament and ministries, would be the one to run the government.
