Disability Justice: Court Decisions on Disability Rights in India

December 17, 2024

This book is part of our “Equality Now!” series of four resource books, one on each of CLPR’s key areas of rights-based work including disability rights, transgender persons’ rights, women’s rights and anti-caste discrimination.

The Book provides the legal framework on disability in India and captures the most significant Supreme Court and High Court judgments in plain and simple language. These judgments address both the realization and denial of rights for persons with disabilities, offering a holistic understanding of how courts have interpreted and implemented disability rights.

The book is thematically categorized, focusing on areas such as reasonable accommodation, non-discrimination, inclusion in education and employment, healthcare, and accessibility. It is enriched by insights from leading disability rights activists, academics, and lawyers, gathered during CLPR’s National Consultation with stakeholders. Their feedback on the draft has shaped this resource to better serve its audience.

The book includes QR codes under each case summary which link to accessible and screen-reader friendly versions of the original judgments, and further includes highlights of significant paragraphs.
