On 16th March 2019, CLPR Co-Founder Dr. Sudhir Krishnaswamy will join five other panelists to critically discuss the status of freedom of expression in contemporary India at Crossfire 2019. They will engage with the question, ‘do we have the right to free speech or just compliant speech?’

During Crossfire, the panelists will engage with free speech through seven themes: defamation, freedom of press, fake news, sedition, blasphemy, censorship and cyberspeech. Dr Krishnaswamy will provide the audience with a legal and constitutional perspective of these issues. In particular, he will analyse recent Supreme Court judgments and their impact on freedom of expression.

Crossfire is a part of the four day fest Pragyan, annually organised by NIT Trichy. Pragyan hosts experts from various fields, including science, technology, management and civil society, with the aim of providing students a rich exposure to contemporary issues facing India.
