CLPR Case Briefs – Journalists and the law of Contempt

January 22, 2014 | Jayna Kothari

CLPR has prepared a case brief on Journalists and the law of Contempt. Journalists in India have found themselves entangled in criminal contempt cases since the early 1900s, and, over the course of time, the Courts have developed different tests to ascertain whether or not a particular article may be contemptuous. The Brief contains cases from the Supreme Court and the High Court that have upheld the right of the press to publish articles on the Judiciary, as well as reporting on pending cases.
