The Centre for Law and Policy Research (CLPR) is a not-for-profit trust dedicated to making the Constitution work for everyone through law and policy research, social and governance interventions, and strategic impact litigation. Our primary focus is on addressing discrimination at the intersections of caste, gender, disability, and other minority groups.

 

The Constitution Defender Fellowship is a 3-year fellowship for early-career lawyers to train them in legal aid work for the constitutional rights of persons with disabilities, women, gender and sexual minorities, Dalit and Adivasi persons, and other vulnerable groups. We are looking to recruit a Senior Litigation Associate who will mentor and supervise the litigation work of CLPR’s Constitution Defender Fellows, as well as be responsible for overall program management.

 

A. About the Position and Role

The Senior Litigation Associate will report to the Executive Director and may be assigned duties by other authorised personnel. This role involves litigation-related tasks and administrative responsibilities.

 

This is a full-time opportunity based out of Bangalore.

 

B. Scope of Work

  • Conduct regular meetings with Constitution Defender Fellows
  • Report regularly to management and to donors on the program
  • Manage the trainings and other program activities and the budget of the Constitution Defenders Program
  • Train and assist the fellows in drafting writ petitions, appeals, applications and other pleadings
  • Brief and assist the Litigation Director/Executive Director as and when required
  • Appear in the High Courts and the Supreme Court as and when required

 

C. Required Skills

  • Ability to mentor and train junior lawyers
  • Strong team and program management skills
  • Strong communication and reporting skills
  • Exceptional legal, analytical, writing abilities

 

D. Education, Experience, and Training

  • Undergraduate degree in Law from a recognized university and enrolment with a State Bar Council
  • Master’s degree in Law (desirable)
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in litigation, preferably in the High Courts or the Supreme Court

 

E. Remuneration

Pay will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
